Dr Qi Zhao (BSc, MSc, PhD) is Senior lecturer of Division of Mechanical Engineering, University of Dundee. His research interests are in new materials, chemistry, biology and surface coating techniques, particularly in the development and application of novel nanostructured and nanocompoite materials for processing equipment and medical devices to prevent microbial and protein adhesion. He has many years research experience in the development of anti-biofouling and anti-corrosion coatings for industrial instruments and anti-bacterial nano-biomaterials for medical devices and implants by surface modification techniques. He has received over £2M research funding from EPSRC, EC FP6, US Army, UK Department of Health, Scottish Executive Chief Scientist Office and UK industries on the development of these new materials. He collaborates extensively with his colleagues in Europe and the US. His results have been published in more than 80 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He been invited to give several keynote lectures on international conferences. He acts as a reviewer of 11 peer review journals and research grant proposals of EPSRC and BBSRC. He serves as a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College and a member of New York Academy of Sciences. Currently Dr Zhao suprvises 3 Research Fellows and 3 PhD students on Nano-biomaterials research for medical devices and implants.
