In particular, I try to contribute to better understanding of KATP channels structure, function and regulation. BackgroundATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channels are expressed in various tissues where they link intracellular metabolism with the membrane excitability. As an example, pancreatic KATP channels regulate insulin secretion while cardiac KATP channels are important part of the cardioprotective signalling pathway (reviewed by Nichols, 2006, Nature 440: 470-476). It is a consensus view that a better understanding of these channels would lead to better understanding of many important physiological processes. Publications |
