Sports Facilities
The University has excellent indoor and outdoor facilities. The indoor facilities are some of the most modern and extensive of all Scottish Universities, and include:
- a massive state-of-the-art-gym with the latest download technology (we're the first gym in the UK with mp3/mp4 compatible personal viewing screens)
- 2 new dance/exercise studios for all your favourite classes
- 3 new glass-backed squash courts
- a designated strength performance centre
- a specialised combat studio for boxing and martial arts
- 2 indoor sports halls
All indoor facilities are situated on campus.
The outdoor facilities include:
- a 33 acre sports ground with changing accommodation, Pavilion and floodlit training area;
- 4 all-weather tennis courts
- a Water Activities Centre enabling excellent sailing on the Tay Estuary close by the famous Tay Bridge.

Sports Union (SU)
The Sports Union is the governing body for sport in the University, and is run by students and a sabbatical officer. All students at the University are automatically enrolled as members of the Sports Union, and so can join any of the sports clubs offered (on the payment of a membership fee). University staff can also join. A list of clubs and access to club web sites is available from the Clubs and Societies page.
Other University Sports Clubs
The University has staff clubs which both staff and students of the University and other related institutions are welcome to join. They include the Dundee University Staff Cricket Club, the Staff Curling Club, a badminton club & an angling club. Further details are available on the Clubs & Societies page.

Sports in & around Dundee
There are lots of sporting opportunities in Dundee and the surrounding area, which is particularly renowned for the following:
- Hill walking, mountaineering and ponytrekking
Scotland has some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain, and there are many opportunities for hill walking and moutain sports for people of all abilities. The Outdoor Activities section of the Scottish Tourist Board web site provides further information.
- Skiing & Snowboarding
Scotland has five ski areas - Cairngorm, Glencoe, Glenshee, the Lecht, and the Nevis Range. Glenshee is close by, and snowboarding is welcomed at all five resorts which also offer tuition. More information, including charges, piste maps and the latest ski conditions, is available from Ski Scotland published by the Scottish Tourist Board.
- Watersports
Situated on the banks of the River Tay, and surrounded by rivers and lochs, Dundee is ideally located for watersports, whether you want to sail, surf, dive, canoe, race, raft or charter. The University has a Water Activities Centre on the River Tay.
- Golf
Recognized as a golfing Mecca, the Dundee area is the place to be if you are a keen golfer. The St Andrews Old Course, the Letham Grange Course, and the Carnoustie Golf Course (host to the 1999 Golf Championship) are all nearby. - Skateboarding
There is a thriving skateboard scene in Dundee. Visit The Factory Skatepark, and DundeeConcrete.com Dundee's first, purpose built, concrete skatepark situated in Dudhope Park.
