University of Dundee Teaching Awards

"In my plans for the future development of the University, I place high value on excellence in learning and teaching and I am proud of our high standing in the National Student Survey and International Student Barometer. It is therefore important that high quality teaching is being recognised and celebrated through the recently initiated Teaching Awards."
Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor.

The University now has a number of Teaching Awards which reflect institutional aspirations for, and reward and recognition for staff achievement in, excellence in learning and teaching. In order to provide a broader platform for colleagues to engage with the awards, from this academic year each of the Colleges will also host their own Teaching Awards.

Winners of the College Awards will then be invited to go forward for the University level awards.

Staff and students can take part in the following ways:

  • Staff can put forward an individual or team submission, or nominate others, under the heading of Innovation in Teaching. Submissions should be restricted to one side of A4 and should reflect the university level criteria for the Honorary Graduates' Award for Innovative Teaching. Nominations should include the name(s) and email details and a brief description of the innovation.
  • Staff can nominate a colleague under the heading of Excellence in Teaching. Before nominating a colleague please look at the information on the university level Excellence in Teaching Award page to confirm that your nominee meets the criteria. Nominations should include the nominee's name and email details and a brief supporting case for the nomination.
  • Students can also nominate lecturers under the heading of Excellence in Teaching. Before nominating your lecturer please look at the information on the university level Excellence in Teaching Award page to confirm that your nominee meets the criteria. Nominations should include the nominee's name and email details and a brief supporting case for the nomination.

Submissions and/or nominations should be emailed to your College Office by Friday 26 February 2010. No further nominations or submissions can be accepted after this date.

The University values high quality teaching as part of its mission and strategy and acknowledges this with three awards to recognise innovative, excellent and lifelong contribution to teaching.
