Stock Management
The University is no longer able to maintain the current provision of off-site Library stores and as a result the LLC is required to reduce the stock held in these stores. Stock in these areas primarily consists of low or nil-use print journals, most of which are available online. Journals held in electronic format facilitate wider access and effective use of space, and most HE Libraries now operate a policy of disposal of print copies.
To ensure that researchers continue to have access to low-use print materials, the LLC has signed the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL) Collaborative print retention policy.
Criteria for Withdrawal
- Titles held online in collections purchased in perpetuity by JISC for the UK. The LLC will make sure that electronic material is securely archived where licences and budget permit.
- Medical and Science titles which are now held in open access online format, by the publishers depositing earlier volumes with various hosting services.
- Ephemeral items which are increasingly frequently available online, such as Company Annual Reports, Newsletters or Yearbooks.
- Subjects no longer studied. The main category for consideration here is Chemistry journals, where we can identify nil usage for the previous 4 years.
