We subscribe to a variety of online journals, e-books and databases to support the teaching and research of the University. Most of these resources can be accessed off campus using your standard University username and password (the same one which you use to access dMail e-mail and My Dundee). Some resources also require you to sign in when on campus (e.g. Chronicle, JISC MediaHub). The computer you are using at the moment is detected as being on campus with IP address 134.36.2.74.
For most users, the access is set up for you automatically, and you do not have to register specially. If you have an ICS Associate User account you will have to register to gain access to e-resources. Please see our Associate User guidance notes for more information.
NHS staff and students on clinical placements in the NHS are entitled to an Athens account which allows you to access resources specific to the NHS. Please see the The Knowledge Network (previously the NHS Scotland eLibrary) for further details, or contact LLC Liaison if you are having difficulties.
You can find and log in to e-resources from:
Please remember that for each resource, the way to log in will look slightly different. If you have trouble finding how to log in, consult the Resources for your subject pages which have a full explanation. Some resources can only be accessed through special links from the LLC web pages and catalogue.
Instead of clicking on an Athens link to login, look out for the following links (publishers may use any one of these phrases)
To give you an idea of what to expect, please see our page showing screenshots of the login process.
The safest way to log out of your University of Dundee Login is to close all browser windows. Some resources may provide a Logout link or button, but that will not log you out of the central University of Dundee authentication system. If you are using a public computer, it is particularly important to close the browser windows. If you do not, anyone else using the computer after you may be able to access resources under your name: even resources which you were not using yourself.
Before you enter your University of Dundee username and password, please check the web address of the page being displayed. The University of Dundee Login address begins https://idp.dundee.ac.uk/ and you should check that this is shown before entering your username and password. A malicious person might try to trick you into divulging your login details by setting up a page which looks like the University of Dundee Login page. By checking the web address you can reduce that risk. It is particularly important to check when using a service you have not used before.
There are other University services which may demand your username and password. They all have web addresses with the host name ending ".dundee.ac.uk/". Do not enter your University of Dundee username and password in pages from any other address.
If you use the University of Dundee Login page to log in to an external service, the service provider will not be informed of your password. Even your username is encoded so that the service provider cannot identify you personally. For most services the only information disclosed by the University will be the encoded username and an indication of your status within the University (e.g. "staff" or "student"). Note that some services will ask you for personal details, such as your name and status, when you first sign in. You should consult the privacy policy of such services to find out how this information may be used.
Please contact LLC Liaison if you need any assistance with login procedures or with using the resources.
