CrossSearch

CrossSearch is the latest addition to the University Library's range of services. CrossSearch represents a major advance in the Library's ability to provide information resources of the highest quality, targeted to individual needs, and delivered through an easy-to-understand, but powerful and flexible interface.

What is CrossSearch?

CrossSearch allows Library users to search up to ten information sources simultaneously. These sources can be:

• databases, such as Scopus or Web of Knowledge;
• library catalogues, such as our own, as well as those of the universities of Abertay & St. Andrews;
• collections of electronic journals (e.g. ScienceDirect) or e-books (e.g. Ebrary);
• information held on external web sites (e.g. Joseph Rowntree Foundation or Intute).

Library users can search using pre-defined 'QuickSets', or can put together their own lists of favourite sources using the FlexiSearch option.

Other advantages of CrossSearch

• You no longer have to remember the rules for searching different databases from different providers: CrossSearch provides a single interface, with a single set of rules.
• CrossSearch connects with the Library's existing Link-to service, , to provide instant access to electronic and print materials.
• CrossSearch can, in many cases, give direct links to the electronic full-text.
• CrossSearch results can be saved to your PC, e-mailed, or exported to your EndNote library.
• CrossSearch allows you to store your favourite search results, e-journals and databases in your My CrossSearch section.
• CrossSearch offers an A-Z list of electronic journals listing over 16,000 journals available to University of Dundee members. These can also be browsed by subject categories.

You will find search boxes for CrossSearch on all the Resources for your subject pages, as well as on the Library home page itself. You can also install a search provider plugin on Internet Explorer or Firefox to give direct access to CrossSearch QuickSets from your browser.
