Online assessments can be as simple as a quick multiple choice quiz, or as advanced as summative assessments using multimedia and a variety of question styles. Some lecturers may wish to use the QM software directly, others wish to focus on creating the questions and have the technical authoring completed by others.

Options include:

  • Author using the QM Authoring Manager software available on the SOE or from the Learning Centre
  • Create questions using online templates
  • Create questions, answers and feedback in MS Word or PowerPoint for transfer by the Learning Centre into Questionmark

Questionmark Perception Authoring Service:

To faciliate use of the e-assessment systems the Learning Centre is available to complete the technical authoring of formative/low-stakes summative assessments on behalf of academic staff.

The procedure for submitting assessments for authoring by the Learning Centre is as follows:

  • questions, answers, mark value and feedback should be prepared in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint (large sets of questions may be processed as part of the Learning Centre Project Scheme)
  • if graphics or multimedia are required within questions these should be included in the MS Word/PowerPoint file (graphics/multimedia must be free of copyright or if licensed, evidence of their licensed use should be provided)
  • questions in MS Word or PowerPoint format should be emailed to caa@dundee.ac.uk allowing a minimum of 7 working days for the assessment to be authored
  • clear instructions should be provided relating to the format of the assessment e.g. time limit, pass/fail mark, number of attempts allowed
  • details should be provided on which module on My Dundee the assessment is to be delivered through
  • the Learning Centre will author the questions and assessment and contact the staff member to ask them to review the assessment prior to deployment to students.

Further Guidelines

This service is offered on the condition that academic staff will be responsible for checking the accuracy of questions (both question content and scoring), assessments and the student results. The Learning Centre will provide guidance/training on how to access results and, if desired, how to conduct further analysis of assessment data using the Questionmark reporting tools.

This service does not extend to the production of high-stakes examinations (e.g. degree exams). Procedures for the preparation and delivery of high-stakes assessments using Questionmark Perception are outlined in the University of Dundee's e-assessment Policy and Procedures.
