| After you matriculate you will register with Information & Communication Services (ICS). Then you will attend an IT induction (ITi) session which will inform you of the ICS computing facilities, outline the rules, regulations and appropriate conduct for their use and introduce you to the Information & Communications Technologies (ICT) you will need for your studies. This includes using:
Following the session there is lots of support and opportunities to make use of self-directed training in computer use through the University’s My Dundee, IT Resources Online VLE organisation, or to attend tutor led workshops. The session and ITi booklet are supplemented by documentation available to all students in the form of handouts at ICS Service Desks or electronically through the VLE. There are additional areas containing information and instruction on using ICT for academic studies in the VLE organisation. Students who are new to computing, or just want to gain confidence, can elect to attend additional sessions covering the use of certain software in an academic context (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, browsers, email and search engines,). These are small, tutor-led, workshop sessions in an IT suite but additional one-to-one support may also be provided in some cases. More advanced users can explore materials, information and online tutorial links in the VLE. These include instructions on ©Microsoft and Endnote. ICS Service Desk staff are situated in the Tower Basement and the main Library to help any students who have IT problems. ITi is jointly managed by ICS and The Learning Centre, reporting to the C&IT Sub-committee of Senate’s Learning and Teaching Committee.
