Writing Road Shows
How it works
At key points in the academic year, our Academic Skills Team will go ‘on the road’ across the campus and position the Writing Road Show in open spaces in different buildings so that students can discuss approaches to their assignments and to writing with one of our professional staff. This is not intended as an ‘instant fix’, but it will give students the chance to make appointments for further work with one of our writing tutors.

Generic Skills Writing Workshops
How it works
These writing workshops are offered to postgraduate students under the University’s Generic Skills Programme for Research postgraduates at PhD level by the Academic Skills Advisor as academic writing specialist. The aim is to help with preparation for writing in the disciplines, especially for thesis monitoring committee reports, literature reviews, dissertations and theses for research students. Feedback to students helps to avoid errors in later drafts and builds students’ confidence in their ability to write in their own academic ‘voice’.

Write Attributes
How it works
Write Attributes is a site that offers guidance on writing well in academia. It covers key aspects of academic ethics, presentation of work and the language dimensions of citation and referencing to avoid plagiarism. It links to the University’s skills website Advance@Dundee so that this an instant reference resource for students as they develop their own assignments. Write Attributes is offered as a module within My Dundee with the aim of enabling staff to integrate the content into subject modules.
