Following undergraduate studies and the Diploma in Legal Practice in the University of Aberdeen, David qualified as a solicitor with a large Glasgow based firm. He worked as a solicitor thereafter and at the same time studied part-time for a PhD which was awarded by the University of Edinburgh in 2004. (The Development and Use of Written Pleadings in Scots Civil Procedure) In 1998 he commenced his devilling at the Scottish Bar and was admitted Advocate in 1999. He has been at the Bar since and has appeared before the High Court of Justiciary, Outer and Inner House of the Court of Session, Sheriff Court and Sheriff Principal, the Scottish Land Court and the Scottish Lands Tribunal. He is a member of Terra Firma Chambers, Parliament House, Edinburgh EH1 1RF.
In 2007/8 he completed the Post Graduate Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration, (DipICArb) run by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators at Keble College, University of Oxford. He has a continuing interest in Dispute Resolution in the International Context having completed CEDR's Summer School in Barcelona in 2007. He also enjoys Higher Rights of Audience before the Commercial Court of the International Finance Centre (DIFC) and has rights of audience before the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court, Doha, Qatar.
He is qualified as an Advocate in Scotland and a Barrister in England and Wales.
