Tom C. Hutcheson, BSc (Hons), LLB, DipLP, MBA completed his Science degree at the University of Aberdeen and degree in Law at the University of Edinburgh graduating in 1991. After qualifying as a solicitor he went on to specialise in professional negligence and commercial litigation. He has been involved in a number of high profile litigation cases and continues to work as a legal consultant for the National Health Service in Scotland.

In 2001 he graduated from the full-time MBA program at the University of Edinburgh (John MacFarlane Prize for Leadership) and then attended Harvard Law School in Boston completing the Certificate in 'Advanced Negotiation' and 'Teaching Negotiation in the Organisation' followed by the certified Commercial Mediation course at Northwestern University in Chicago. He spent additional time in the US gaining experience working with commercial mediators in Chicago, Indianapolis and San Francisco.

After completing a year's research at the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece, in 2003 Tom founded a consultancy business through which he now provides negotiation consultancy and negotiation training to a range of international clients based in the UK, Europe, the Middle and Far East.

Tom also acts as a commercial mediator as a partner of Mediation Scotland LLP and is a member of the Edinburgh Sheriff Court panel of court mediators. He is a founding member of the Eastern Mediterranean Mediation Association (EMMA) which has the aim of developing international commercial mediation services in the shipping industry within Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

In 2007 Tom was invited to join the teaching team at the University of Edinburgh as a visiting lecturer teaching on their MBA programme and in 2008 he was appointed as an honorary lecturer at the University of Dundee attached to the School of Law.
