Taught Masters Degrees: Gender, Culture and Human Rights

Module Convenor: Professor Fiona Raitt (f.e.raitt@dundee.ac.uk) Room 3.04

This module is delivered through seminars and independent research tasks.  It will involve a minimum of 16 hours class contact time.  The method of assessment is 50% coursework and 50% written examination.

This module explores the relationships between three key dimensions of globalisation: gender, culture and human rights.  It considers the origins of current ideological differences and disputes between East and West and how those impact on attitudes towards gender, religion and culture.  It explores the role of law in regulating differences between gender and culture within nation states and internationally, and the scope for human rights to transcend these differences.
