Module Convenor: Ms Kirsteen Shields (k.l.shields@dundee.ac.uk) Room 3.13
This is a Semester 1 module. Economic globalisation has led to a radical transformation of the relationship between states and corporations. In many instances Multinational Enterprises are now more powerful than states. Policy areas which have typically been the preserve of the state, such as human rights and the environment, are now increasingly subject to corporate influence.
This module will start by examining the growing discourse on human rights obligations of corporations and locating the Fairtrade Movement within that discourse. The regulatory mechanisms and case history of Fairtrade will be examined in detail, before considering the impact of the Fairtrade Movement on corporate behaviour globally. The module will contain detailed analysis of regulatory devices as well as critical legal thinking of the interplay between law and politics within global trade.
