LLM Structure

Whether starting in September or January the Dundee LLM commences with a compulsory Induction Programme. This will ensure that all students have the necessary understanding of the UK and EU legal systems, as well as core principles of public and private law, to complete the LLM. Particular attention will also be given to developing legal skills, particularly in terms of research and academic writing.

For students commencing their studies in September 2011 induction begins at 9.00 on Monday 12 September.

For students commencing their studies in January 2012 induction begins at 9.00 on Monday 16 January.

Success in the LLM requires students to accumulate 180 credits and to achieve an average of C3 on the University marking scale.

Each semester students must select 2 modules from their chosen programme (120 credits in total). In addition students must complete a Legal Research Skills Module (10 credits). Assessment is by a mix of course assignments and examination (autumn semester exams are held in December, spring semester exams in May). All elements of summative assessment are double marked and reviewed by an external examiner.

Between June and August, all students, whether September of January intake, must complete a dissertation of 15,000 words on a subject related to their programme specialism and for which staff supervision exists (50 credits).

Students commencing in September 2011 will complete their studies in August 2012 (marks confirmed in October 2012). Students commencing in January 2012 will complete their studies in December 2012 (with marks confirmed in February 2013).
