LLM Features
Dundee Law School prides itself as being a friendly Law School where all members of staff are accessible and students are treated as individuals and valued members of our legal community.
At Dundee we aim to provide you with the resources and assistance you need to increase your legal skills and maximise your knowledge acquisition. In particular reference can be made to:
- Our Induction Programme for new students at the start of each semester. Knowledge components ensure that all students have the necessary understanding of the UK and European legal systems as well as core principles of public and private law. Within the skills elements students are introduced to our legal resources and made aware of what is required of them in terms of research and academic writing;
- Learning at Dundee is by way of independent study, through directed reading and weekly seminars (20 Contact Hours per module). Small group teaching is guaranteed for all courses, with a maximum of 20 students per seminar;
- Regular and detailed feedback is essential to achieving success on an LLM and at Dundee we commit to having two pieces of written work per module, which will be marked within two weeks, with detailed comments provided.
A successful LLM also depends on the wider learning environment and we seek to integrate all LLM students into the life of the Law School. To this end:
- LLM students are invited to all guest lectures and seminars;
- Monthly staff - LLM lunches allow students to meet with all members of the School in an informal setting;
- There is an annual reading party to The Burn House with senior members of staff. This allows staff and students to meet over two days in a beautiful country house location and to work on academic skills and dissertation preparation.
