All applicants will be enrolled initially for the Certificate. You do not have to commit yourself to continuing your studies, either for the Diploma or the Masters Degree, until the two certificate modules have been completed.

To achieve the award of the Diploma, you must complete these two core modules in plus take two more in your second year, from the following list:

Instead of one of these law modules, you may opt to include a number of modules which are offered by the School of Orthopaedics. Details of all of the modules are provided in the main Prospectus.

Please note that the availability of a module is dependent on student demand and availability of staff. This caveat applies particularly in respect of modules offered by other Schools.

Once you have acquired 120 credits, you may choose to graduate with a Diploma in Healthcare Law and Ethics. In order to be awarded the Masters Degree, in your third and final year of study, you will take a module entitled "Legal Research Skills" (worth 10 credits) and write a dissertation. Possible subject areas include: euthanasia, stem-cell research material/foetal conflict, risk management, clinical trials and pharmaceutical product liability. The choice is yours, subject to approval from the Programme Director. Guidance on the structure and content will be provided, and deadlines agreed for the submission of chapter headings, etc.
