Applications, Fees & Funding at Dundee Law School

Application Forms for admission to the Diploma programme will be available from the Diploma Secretary, School of Law, Scrymgeour Building, Park Place, Dundee during Spring 2012 - date to be confirmed.

If you are an undergraduate, you must submit your application to the Director of the Diploma at your university regardless of which University you plan to study at. If you are not a graduate, you must submit your application to the Director of the Diploma of the University of your choice. Applications must be submitted during Spring 2012. Applications will be available online soon.

Fees

Tuition fees for the full-time Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at Dundee for the year 2012-2013 will be £6300. Students also require to purchase course materials, including books, the cost of which will be approximately £450. Tuition fees for the proposed part-time Diploma will be 50% of the full fees.

Funding

The Scottish Government have announced changes to the way in which certain postgraduate courses, including the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, will be funded for the 2012/13 academic year. All students who meet eligibility criteria and who have secured a place on the Diploma to start in 2012 will be able to apply through the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for a tuition fee loan towards the cost of fees. The maximum loan available is £3,400 for full time study and £1,700 for part time study. The loans will not be means tested and repayment will commence once the student has graduated, is in employment and is earning above the student loan repayment threshold, which will be £15,795 from April 2012.

Further information is available on the SAAS website at http://www.saas.gov.uk/student_support/funding_update.htm.

The SAAS loan arrangements may impact on students' access to Professional and Career Development Loans which most banks traditionally offer. See the advice given on the directgov website

However, there is some uncertainty concerning the impact and the Law Society of Scotland is preparing a Guidance Note on this which will be circulated to all Universities shortly.

Forms

Please note: Applicants completing the application form should send it as soon as possible to the Legal Practice Unit (or other designated office) of the University where the applicant is currently a student, or from which she/he has graduated.
