what we do
gym@ise | spc (strength performance centre)
the spc is a purpose built strength training area, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and funded by sportscotland, to enable the training and preparation of performance athletes. how swanky is that?! gym+, gym&swim and gym members can train in the spc but there are a few bits and bobs you need to know.
- we want you to train safely and correctly, so we insist you have an SPC FACILITY INDUCTION
- book your induction at reception
- in your induction we’ll show you how to use the equipment and we’ll tell you about our rules and regulations
- once you’ve finished your half-hour induction we’ll give you an SPC MEMBER SUBSCRIPTION
- no member subscription, no access to the spc – the door will be security locked and we won’t give you the code
- the code will be regularly changed
- we’re assuming that your technique is good and this won’t be part of the induction
if you’re new to lifting weights, we’d like you to train in the gym. if you want to learn free weight lifting techniques look out for our planned courses – they’ll be advertised in the gym and at reception. chat to one of our gym staff if you want more info.
so now you’ve figured out if you’re good to go, when can you train in the spc? each week there are times when the spc is closed to members so that athletes can train. we advertise these times up to 2 weeks in advance and post them in the spc. our reception staff have a copy too so you can check with them. it’s always a good idea to book your spc training slot as it may be closed off for athletes, or it may be full – we only allow a certain number in there at any one time.

make sure that when you book, or come in to reception, you say you want to train in the spc and not the gym. the gym is the room downstairs with all the treadmills in it!!! if you’ve booked the spc you can always nip down to the gym to access any machines you want to there, but if you’ve booked the gym you can’t just nip up to the spc.
in the spc we’re pretty strict about the behaving yourself bit, so if you’re being unsafe or abusing the facility we’re going to ask you to leave.
