Eilish Continues Her Olympic Journey.......

Dundee University Sport scholar Eilish McColgan is continuing her comeback from a serious foot injury, with an excellent run in the weekend's Nike Grand Prix meeting in Manchester where she slashed more than 5 seconds off her previous best time with 15min 47secs, coming 4th in the process. This result and time augurs well for Eilish's bid to secure a place in the 3000m steeplechase at this summer's London Olympics. Keep up the good work Eilish!

Karate Club strike Medals.......

Congratulations to the university Karate Club who hosted the Scottish Universities Karate Championships on Sunday and managed to complete the day with a haul of 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. Well done to all involved!

National Success for Men's Hockey.......

Well done to Men's Hockey who gained promotion to National League Div. 2 after two away wins at the weekend, taking them to their highest competition level for 20 years. The team rounded off their long season with a 6-2 victory away to Motherwell to seal a well deserved promotion spot.

Sporting Successes for University Sport.......

In Sheffield: Women's Squash: Winners of the BUCS Trophy Final, Women's Fencing: Runners Up in the BUCS Trophy Final, Karate: 2 individual silver and 1 individual Bronze medal at the BUCS Championship Final
Mens Rugby: Scottish Universities League Winners (BUCS Tier 1), Men's Basketball: BUCS Tier 2 Winners (unbeaten all season), Dance: Overall winners at the BUCS Dance Festival in Sunderland with 3 x 1st places and 3 x 2nd places.

Blues and Colours Celebrations.......

Well done to all Blues and Colours award winners who celebrated at the Annual Ball on Friday at the Invercarse Hotel. Particular congratulations to Men's Rugby (Team of the Year); Karate Club (Most Progressive Club) and the Netball Club (Club of the Year) who picked up their respective trophies on Friday at the Ball. Overall 5 Full Blues, 6 Half Blues, 22 Merits and 51 Colours were awarded this year. Well done everyone from Dundee University Sport!

2012 Annual Blues and Colours Awards.......

The cream of the 2012 sporting crop will be recognised this week with the Annual Blues and Colours Awards Ceremony taking place on Tuesday followed by the Blues and Colours Ball on Friday at the Invercarse Hotel. Those students that have excelled as performers and volunteers will receive their rewards from the University Principal Prof. Pete Downes on Tuesday, while Friday's bash will see the top clubs crowned in the relaxed and celebratory surroundings of the annual Ball. Very well done to all concerned from Dundee University Sport!!

Conference Cup Finals coming to Dundee.......

Less than one week to go before Dundee University hosts the Conference Cup Finals for Scottish Student Sport. On Wednesday 21st March We will be playing host to the Scottish Student Sporting world as 12 different Scottish Universities compete to be BUCS Scottish Conference Champions. This is a real sporting spectacle and if you're interested in highly competitive sporting action then you MUST come and watch. Congratulations to the newly elected Sports Union Executive for 2012/13 following the recent SU elections:
President - Andy Smart (Canoe), Vice President Sport - David Hill (Men's Rugby), Vice President Events - Mark McCall (Karate), Honorary Secretary - Jenny Wood (Canoe), Campus Sport Officer - Euan Millar (Men's Rugby), Communications Officer - Keith Macleod (Canoe).

Men's Rugby are Champs!.......

Huge congratulations to Men's Rugby 1st XV for winning the Scottish Universities League title with 1 match remaining, without losing a match in an unbeaten league run that stretches over 2 years. Well done boys!!

BUCS Successes.......

Well done to Women's Fencing and Squash who have both reached the Final of their BUCS Trophy competition and will travel to Sheffield for the weekend of 16 - 18 March to compete against and Cardiff and Bristol respectively. Good luck girls!

Scottish Women's Rugby University Talent ID Day......

Do you have what it takes to become an International Rugby Player?? You dont have to play rugby already, Scottish Rugby are looking for women over the age of 17yrs from all sorts of disciplines to come and try out. They are hosting an open talent identification day on 18 February 2012 Murrayfield, Edinburgh from 10am-2pm. For more info check out the website.

Sports Scholar Faces England in 6 Nations......

Congratulations to Dundee University Sport Scholar Andrew Redmayne who has been selected in the Scotland Under 20 squad to face England in their 6 Nations opening match at Firhill Stadium in Glasgow this Friday night. Andrew plays for Dundee High School FP - which has a partnership agreement with Dundee University Sport - and is currently an undergraduate in the School of Humanities. Another sports scholar, Gavin Robertson - who also plays for DHSFP and the unbeaten University team - is hopeful of gaining selection for one of the later 6 Nations fixtures, having been selected in the extended Scotland Squad for the tournament.

Curling Glory for Abi......

Abi Brown, a 2nd year Product Design student and a Scottish Insitute of Sport Athlete, will be competing in the World Junior Curling Championships in Östersund, Sweden in early March. She is part of Hannah Fleming's team who won the Scottish Junior Championships last weekend with an impressive 9-2 victory over Hazel Smith's team. We wish Abi and her team the best of luck!

Good luck to Women's Fencing who take on Edinburgh in the quarter final of the BUCS Trophy this Wednesday (2pm in Hall 2) and well done to Men's Rugby who destroyed Stirling 65-3 on Sunday to progress to the quarter finals of their BUCS Trohpy quarter final.
