Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence (DWBI) program is part of the Information Services Directorate of the University of Dundee. The DWBI program will bring together data from a number of different internal and external sources to help make strategic, tactical and operational decisions across various levels of the University.
Background
Higher Education Instituitions have a number of administrative units working to faciliate the operation of the university. Each of these units collects, stores and generates data in various formats, such as databases, spreadsheets, or even paper. Different units collect and store the same data from different sources. These systems are configured to facilate the operation of the organisation.
The Data Warehouse however is configured for fast analysis, rather than operation. The DW takes information from these systems and joins it to cloud based data to provide cross system trend analysis and reporting.
Vision
To be a reliable and consistent provider of clean, 'single version of truth' information which is derived from administrative and college based systems and delivered to internal and external bodies.

- Integrate data from heterogenous systems
- Cleanse and improve data quality
- Develop institutional wide Data Dictionary
- Restructure data as per University's business processes
- Provide platform for disseminating cleansed data for reuse
- Provide framework for analytical reporting and self service Business Intelligence
