An exhibition of striking head wear created by first year art students was on show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), University of Dundee.

An annual exhibition of work by first year General course students has become a popular annual event at the college. This exhibition "Urban Heads" is a celebration of creativity and diversity with evocative work that challenges both the artist and the audience.

Students were asked to design functional, experimental and imaginative head gear which explored methods of construction and the inherent qualities of the material used. The result has been diverse, taking influence from topics including the animal world, Japanese Manga cartoons and Native American culture.

Jenny Brownrigg, curator of Exhibitions at the University, said, "Urban heads offers an opportunity to see young artists embarking on their chosen vocation. Fresh ideas and unique approaches illustrate how young artistic talent continues to be successfully developed through the General course."
