UoD WiFi - using Windows Vista
Getting Started...
Before you begin please change your password using the Password Management Portal, read the frequently asked questions page and ensure you are in a wireless zone.
How to configure your laptop
Step 1
- Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre
- Select Manage wireless networks from the left hand menu

- Select either:
- Use all-user profiles only (recommended)or
- Use all-user and per-user profiles
Note: It is your choice which you select, if you do not know, use the default setting of Use all-user profiles (recommended).

Step 4
- Click on Add.

- Click on Manually create a network profile.
Step 6
- In the Network name field, enter UoD_WiFi
- In the Security type field, select WPA2-Enterprise
- In the Encryption type field, it should default to AES
- Leave the Security Key/Passphrase field blank
- If you intend to share your laptop, select the option 'Save this network for me only'
- Tick or untick the Start this connection automatically. This is your choice.
- Select Next

- The Successfully added UoD_WiFi window should open
- Click on Change connection settings

- Check the connection tab information is correct:

- Select the Security tab
- Check that WPA-Enterprise and AES are in the upper two boxes
- The lower box should say Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Tick or untick the box for Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network. Setting the box as unticked is the more secure option, especially if the laptop is going to be used by more than one person.
- Click on Settings

Step 10
- Tick the Validate server certificate box.
- Check the 'Add Trust' certificate.
- In the lower part of this screen, the Select Authentication Method should be showing Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).
- Leave the 'Enable Fast reconnect' box checked.
- Leave the 'Enable Quarantine checks' box unchecked.
- Leave the 'Disconnect if server does not present cryptobinding TLV' box unchecked.
- Click on Configure

Step 11
- Uncheck the box for Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)
- In the lower part of this screen, the Select Authentication Method should be showing Secure password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
- Click on OK
- Click on OK
- Click on OK to return to 'successfully added UoD WiFi' window.

Step 12

- Select UoD_WiFi to connect to
- If the wireless network UoD_WiFi is not listed, try clicking on the refresh button,

- Click on Connect

Step 14
- Select Enter/select additional log on information

Step 15
- Enter your usual university username and password, leave the Logon domainfield empty.
- You may need to restart before Vista picks up the new settings.
- When you have established a connection there may be a delay when nothing appears to be happening which is followed by a prompt to enter the location type. This is a Vista security configuration rather than a UoD_WiFi configuration. It is your choice which you select but Public is usually the safest location type.
