UoD WiFi - using Windows XP

 

Before you start...

Before you use these instructions please change your password using the Password Management Portal, read the frequently asked questions page, ensuring you are in a wireless zone.

How to configure your laptop

Step 1

• Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connection > Network Connections
• Right-click on Wireless Network Connections
• Select View Available Wireless Networks 
  
   

Step 2

• UoD_WiFi should be seen. If not select Refresh Network List select UoD_WiFi
• Select Change Advanced Settings 
  
   

Step 3

• Select Wireless Networks tab
• Tick Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings
• Under Preferred Networks: select UoD_WiFi then click Properties or if UoD_WiFi is not present, click Add
  
   

Step 4

• On the Association tab:
• If there is no entry under Network name (SSID), enter UoD_WiFi
• Under Network Authentication select WPA2 (or WPA)
• Under Data encryption select AES (or TKIP)
• Uncheck other tick boxes unless they are greyed out
• Select the Authentication tab
  
   

Step 5

• Under EAP Type select Protected EAP (PEAP)
• Uncheck other tick boxes
• Click Properties
  
   

Step 6

• Uncheck Validate Server Certificate
• Check the Add Trust certificate certificate.
• Under Select Authentication Method select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
• Click Configure

Step 7

• Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password box
• Click OK
  
   

Step 8

• Click OK > OK > OK to close the properties/setup windows View Wireless Network Connections again as per steps 1 and 2
• Select UoD_WiFi
• Click Connect
  
   

Step 9

• Click in the balloon that says Wireless Network Connections on the bottom right hand side of your screen
• If you check on the balloon and nothing happens restart your laptop and repeat step 9.
  
   

Step 10

• Enter your standard University of Dundee username and password and click OK
• You should now be able to access the Internet and services listed overleaf. The next time you are in a wirelesss zone you will be connected automatically.
