UoD WiFi - using Apple Mac OS X 10.5.xx 'Leopard' and Mac OS X 10.6.xx 'Snow Leopard'

Before you start...
Before you use these instructions please change your password using the Password Management Portal, read the frequently asked questions page, ensuring you are in a wireless zone.
How to configure your laptop
Step 1
- Click
> System Preferences
Step 2
- Select Network to bring up the properties page.
Step 3
- Under location, Select 'Automatic'
- If Airport is turned off, then turn it on
- The settings page should now be similar to this.
- Click on the 'Advanced...' button.
Step 4
- Click on the "+" button to add a new network.
Step 5
- Click on'Show networks'
- The settings page should now be similar to this.
Step 6
- Available networks
Note: If you are in a wireless location within any of the University Campuses, you will see both eduroam and UOD_WiFi networks as available.
Step 7
- Select the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
- Enter your standard University username and password.
- Ensure 802.1x:Automatic is chosen by default, if it's not then change it.
Step 8
- Now you have entered your login details, the screen should resemble the image below.
Click on 'Add' to save these settings.
Back to Top Step 9a (Leopard Users)
- The preferred Networks list.
- The 'UoD_WiFi' network will now appear in your preferred network list.
- Click on 'OK' to return to the 'Network' page.
Step 9b (Leopard Users)
- The preferred Networks list.
- The 'UoD_WiFi' network will now appear in your preferred network list.
- Click on 'OK' to return to the 'Network' page.
Step 10
- Apply the new settings for the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
- Click 'Apply'.
- Click the red 'X' to close this window.
- You should have now succesfuly set up and connected to the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
Step 11
- If you did not get connected automatically to the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
- select the 'Airport' symbol from the top of your screen (highlighted blue below).
- Select the 'UoD_WiFi' network option.
Step 12a (Leopard Users)
- You will be prompted to verify the network certificate to allow you to use the 'UoD)_WiFi' network.

Note: If you cancel this request you will not be able to connect to the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
Step 12b (Snow Leopard Users)
- You will be prompted to verify the network certificate to allow you to use the 'UoD)_WiFi' network.
Note: If you cancel this request you will not be able to connect to the 'UoD_WiFi' network.
Step 13a (Leopard Users)
- You will now be prompted to enter your Mac Administrator password.
- Note: This is NOT your standard University password.
- Enter your password.
- Click on 'OK'.
Step 13b (Snow Leopard Users)
- You will now be prompted to enter your Mac Administrator password.
- Note: This is NOT your standard University password.
Enter your username and password using the steps below.
- Enter your password.
- Click on 'OK'.
Step 14
- You may or may not be prompted to enter your login details again.
- If prompted, enter your standard University of Dundee username and password.
- Click on 'OK'.
Step 15
- Check that your settings are correct.
- Click the 'Airport' symbol at the top of your screen.
- Slect 'Open Network Preferences...'
Step 16a (Leopard Users)
- Check that your settings are correct.

Ensure that the following details are similar to your own.
- Location: Automatic
- Airport: Connected
- Status: Authenticated
- Network Name: UoD_WiFi
- Now open an internet browser (i.e.Firefox or Safari)
- and check you can reach the website (http://www.dundee.ac.uk/ics/wireless)
Step 16b (Snow Leopard Users)
- Check that your settings are correct.
Ensure that the following details are similar to your own.
- Location: Automatic
- Status: Authenticated
- Airport: Connected
- Network Name: UoD_WiFi
- Now open an internet browser (i.e.Firefox or Safari) and check you can reach the website (http://www.dundee.ac.uk/ics/wireless)
Note: Sometimes it takes a Mac 2-3 minutes for the connection to be made, this is a known Mac OS problem.
