Your Everyday Essentials
For Web Professionals
Note: please read the Introduction to MySQL Databases before you apply.
The application process for a new MySQL database, or the transfer of a database to a new MySQL user, is similar to that for Sky. There are two forms:
+++ If you are applying for a new database, you will need to complete both forms. You will need authorisation from your Head of Department/School.
+++ If you are taking over the admin of an existing database you will need to complete both forms. You will need authorisation from your Head of Department/School.
+++ If you are contributing to an existing database (i.e. working with an existing MySQL Administrator), then you should complete the Application for a MySQL UserID only, and ask the MySQL Admin to contact ICS Service Desk, Web Development to confirm your access.
Once your database has been setup (usually within a week) you will be sent details of your database name, userids and passwords, and brief details of how to get started with MySQL.
Please specify on the form the purpose of the database; we may call you to discuss your requirements further. This keeps our records straight, and minimises the number of times we set up a database that isn't used. Also, you must already be registered on Sky before you apply for a database.
