The University Web Accessibility Policy

One of the main aims of the Web Accessibility Service is to develop a University Web Accessibility Policy and supporting materials, so that web authors know what levels of accessibility they should be meeting in web resources they produce or commission externally.

The Web Accessibility Policy

The Policy is a top-level statement of intent relating to the role of the Web in making information and services provided by the University as accessible as possible to disabled staff, students and members of the public.

Latest: The Policy was formally approved by the Library and Information Services Committee (LISC) at their meeting of 9th May 2008.

Web Accessibility Definition of Best Practice

Supporting the Policy is a more detailed definition of best practice in Web Accessibility. This will be available to all staff looking for an internal reference on what we mean by Web accessibility. It is also intended to be available as a formal definition of accessibility used when outsourcing web development work.

While the Policy is intended to be a static document, the Definition of Best Practice is not. It will be updated as and when is appropriate to reflect changes or developments in best practice in accessible Web design. Whenever the document is updated, there will be an internal review process, and all staff will be made aware of any changes.
