Virus Protection
University Policy requires that a suitable antivirus product is used and regularly updated on all computers
(Windows, Macintosh and other operating systems) connected to the University of Dundee network.
Matriculated students and Staff are licensed to use the University's anti virus software and may download it for personal use.

These pages are aimed at staff who have no IT support and students who wish to connect to the University network
using their own personal computer/laptop/network device. These pages provide information on recommended
anti-virus software to be installed together with useful information about recent threats and hoaxes.
If you have a concern about virus protection please contact your local IT support or the
ICS Service Desk.

McAfee ver 8.0 Hotfix
Problem: A component in the install of McAfee Enterprise 8.0i - the Common Management Agent - has a bug in it which means it crashes silently when handling large catalog.z files. This bug
means that machines using the NAI repository (i.e. any non SOE machine) will apparently update successfully - no errors are raised and the log reports "Update successful" - but will not
actually do anything. As such DAT updates after 2/2/2009 are never applied.
Full details of the problem can be found at
https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB60060
This problem will therefore affect - and is currently affecting - any home machines, any laptops, and also any internal standalone machines which do not use the SOE
Possible solutions:
Upgrade to 8.7i

If for some reason you don't wish to upgrade to the latest version...
A SuperDAT hot fix has been released and this is available
