The following information is a guide to what is and is not available via the IT connection in your University of Dundee accommodation.
Your internet connection is provided to support your studies at Dundee - our network policy and regulation do not permit file sharing of copyright material.
ResNet strongly recommends that you do not install any peer-to-peer file-sharing applications such as Limewire, Kazaa, BitTorrent, Morpheus, etc.
File sharing depends on the peer-to-peer program to be running constantly, allowing people to download files from your computer. These programs often load at start-up and can be difficult to turn off, often running in the background even when you think you have shut the program down. In addition they are a security risk as they are often a route for the introduction of 'Trojan viruses'.
Note that excessive bandwidth usage caused by peer-to-peer applications will be detected and action will be taken to suspend your connection.
