Dundee Directory Frequently Asked Questions

Dundee Directory is a telephone directory of all University of Dundee staff and associate staff found on all IP telephones.

These frequently asked questions (FAQ) aim to answer the most common questions users might have about the Dundee Directory. If you have a question that isn't answered please let us know by completing our short feedback form.

A guide to using the Dundee Directory is also available.

What is the Dundee Directory?

It is a telephone directory of all University of Dundee staff and associate staff found on all University of Dundee IP telephones.

What are the key features of the Dundee Directory found on IP telephones?

You can:

  • Search for members of staff by organisational unit, as well as by surname and first name.
  • Look up a list of organisational units to search for telephone numbers that way.
  • View and dial telephone numbers for any University of Dundee staff, including associate staff.

I can't find someone who should be listed in the directory. What can I try?

You could try searching using the department option - it is possible that the number may be listed under a lab or room location? Where a telephone is shared by more than one person the telephone may be listed under only one. If you still can't find a listing after trying alternative searches please contact the ICS Service Desk.

My own number is wrong! What should I do?

We do our best to quality assure the information contained within the Dundee Directory. If you discover an error or omission please contact the ICS Service Desk.

I don't have an IP telephone, how can I access this information, or check my own number?

The same information is available on the SOMIS telephone directory.

Do I have to enter a full surname before I can search for a number?

No. You can enter as many characters as you think you'll need to narrow the search down to a reasonable list to search through. The directory will always assumes that it is a wildcard search and will search for everything beginning with the letters you have searched by.

My search has returned a lot of results. Can I narrow it down?

Yes. You can try entering part of the surname and the first few characters (or even just one) of the forename.

How do I correct a mistake when entering a name?

The '«' back hot key will backspace and clear one letter at a time.

I can't remember how to spell the name of the person I want. What can I try?

You can try a departmental search rather than entering a surname and/or forename. Try the 'Depts?' hotkey and pick their organisational unit from the list.

While looking for a department from the 'Depts?' hotkey I got to the bottom of the list and only reached ICS - the department I want is further down the list.

The display can only take 90 entries - Press the 'More' button to see the next page (and the 'Back' button to go back).

How do I exit the Dundee Directory?

Press the 'Exit' hotkey to exit - or just press the 'Directories' button which will take you right out to the Directories function of your IP telephone.
