PCs

Two models of PC, the Corporate Desktop and Standard Workstation, are available.

The recommended models come with network cards and fully configured operating systems. Your School/Department IT support staff will advise on any further configuration required if you are not an SOE user.

Are you an SOE user?

We suggest you purchase the Corporate Desktop PC. It meets and exceeds the requirements for most staff and all University applications have been tested on this PC.

Do you need a DVD writer?

We supply the Corporate Desktop PC with a DVD writer. If you do not require a DVD-writer we can substitute with a DVD-ROM (reader) at a saving of £10.

Which applications do you use?

You may require the faster processor and higher RAM that the Standard Workstation offers if you use:

  • applications that require high-performance graphics
  • appliations that require powerful data processing
  • computer-aided design packages
  • 3D-modelling packages
  • a virtual PC

Otherwise, the Corporate Desktop will fulfill your requirements.

What size of hard drive do you require to support locally installed software and files?

We recommend that users save all files to H:/ or S:/ drives which does not use the hard drive's memory.

Do you need a DVD writer?

We supply both the Corporate Desktop PC and Standard Workstation with a DVD writer.

If you do not require a DVD-writer the Corporate Desktop PC can substituted with a DVD-ROM (reader) at a saving of £10.
