Configuring your email client to use IMAP and SMTP
Any email client that supports IMAP can be configured to connect to GroupWise to receive mail. When you use your client with GroupWise IMAP, the University SMTP mail gateway is used to send mail. Before you can do this you must configure your client to send and receive mail. This page provides instructions on how to set up the following clients:
To send mail from a computer not on the University network (eg using your Broadband connection from home) there are some further steps required, these are outlined for each of the clients.
Configuring Outlook to use IMAP and SMTP
- Open Outlook.
- From the "Tools" menu choose "Email Accounts".
- Enter the details shown below, substituting personal details where appropriate.
- Incoming mail server - imap.dundee.ac.uk
- Outgoing mail server - smtp.dundee.ac.uk
- Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) - check this box

- To configure your client to send mail from off-campus, click on "More Settings".
- Enter the details shown below.

Click on the "Advanced" tab.
Enter the details as shown below.

Restart the client for the changes to take effect.

Configuring Entourage to use IMAP and SMTP
- Open Entourage.
- From the "Tools" menu choose "Accounts".
- Choose "New" and "Mail".
- Click on "Configure Account manually".
- Choose "IMAP" from the drop down list, and click on "OK".
- Enter the details shown below, substituting personal details where appropriate.

- If you wish to use secure IMAP (recommended), click on "Click here for advanced receiving options" in the "Receiving mail" section.
- Enter the details shown below.

- To configure your client to send mail from off-campus, click on "Click here for advanced sending options" in the "Sending mail" section.
- Enter the details shown below.

- Close this window and return to the previous window.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Enter the details as shown below.

- Restart the client for the changes to take effect.
