Guidelines for disabled students taking examinations by computer
You will receive information about the date, time and venue of the examination from your module leader or department, or Registry in the case of degree examinations. You are also advised to refer to Regulations for the Conduct of Examinations.Recommendations
If you wish to use a computer or other IT equipment during an examination, a meeting with Disability Services is required. Your recommendations to use IT equipment will be passed the relevant departments to ensure you have access to IT facilities for your exams.
Training in using IT during examinations
ICS provide training and IT exam familiarisation sessions to students throughout the year. If you would like an IT exam familiarisation sessions please contact ICS Service Desk or Disability ServicesGeneral advice
- Practice sitting an exam using IT before you sit your first exam.
- When you start an exam the first thing you must do is save your work to the exam account Home Area [H:\]. This will ensure your work is saved regularly.
- It is your responsibility to be fluent in the use of IT equipment recommended. If you are unsure contact ICS ServiceDesk or Disability Services
- If you need to listen to audio please bring your own headphones with you. They should have atleast 2m cord

- You will be logged onto the computer by an Examination Officer.
- You are not permitted to bring any floppy disks or other equipment or books into the Examination, unless these are permitted for the examination.
- You will be able to use Microsoft Word, Paint, Calculator, Notepad and other software by arrangement.
- If you need to hear sound please bring headphones (1.5meters lead)
- Please save your work to your exam account home area [Typically h:\] immediately and frequently during the examination.
- You may print out your work at any time during the exam, using the default printer, Credit has been provide on you exam account
- At the END of the examination please print a final copy of your work.
- Please remember to bring exam equipment (head phones, pens etc)
IF AT ANY POINT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS OR HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR PC PLEASE INFORM THE INVIGILATORS COMPUTER ACTIVITY MAY BE RECORDED
