IT exam support for disabled students

ICS currently provides IT support for the main degree examinations arranged through the Registry Office. Subject to resources, ICS can provide IT support for disabled students taking departmental examinations, where a department is unable to provide suitable IT facilities. The responsibility for arranging and implementing the class exam lies with the department, and not ICS or Disability Services.

What is provided?

ICS will provide a temporary User Exam Account suitable for examination use, with the software listed below. (Subject to staff availability and 10 working days notice)

What software is available on the exam accounts ?

The examination accounts do not allow access to the internet or other network resources.

The accounts are credited with funds to enable printing during the exam.

If additional software or equipment not currently available in IT suites is required, this may be provided at additional cost - reasonable notice will be required (10 Working days).

  4. Paint
  5. Calculator
  6. Mouse button switch
  7. Accessibility options
  8. MindGenius
  9. MindView 4
  10. On screen keyboard
  11. Narrator
  12. Magnifier
  13. Read & Write Gold
  14. SuperNova (optional – additional setup required)
  15. Jaws (optional – additional setup required)

The department will need to provide a suitable invigilator for the student. On call support during examinations can not be guaranteed, request for support should be directed to ICS Service Desk.

How do staff request IT support for departmental exams?

To request this service staff should complete the form below. All requests should be made at least 10 working days in advance of the departmental exam. If you require cancellation of this service please contact the ICS Service Desk.

How much does this service cost departments?

The service is free, unless additional equipment/support is required in which a charge of £100 per exam is charged. This contributes towards the additional costs and support time required to deliver this service. Departments will be charged the full rate where a department exam fails to take place or where students fail to show up for their exam.
