Changes to Printing in IT Suites [10/09/09]

During the summer ICS have implemented some changes to printing in IT Suites. In support of the University's environmental and sustainability objectives printing to mono (black/white) printers in all IT Suites has been set to duplex (double-sided) printing by default from the start of Semester 1. The settings can easily be changed to single -sided where required - instructions are available in IT suites.
Colour printing will remain single-sided by default but can also easily be set to duplex.
This contributes to the University's carbon management objectives by saving power and paper.
Also from the start of semester 1, the choice of printer will be "Black and White" or "Colour" only and you may go to any IT Suite printer to select your print jobs for printing there.

ICS goes live with new University website design! [24/07/08]

The ICS website has been transformed today (Thursday 24 July) to reflect the new corporate website design.

What has changed?

New design.
The key change is the new design. This follows the new University website design which is being rolled out across the whole University. ICS' branding has been applied to ensure consistency across all our visual communications. We hope our stakeholders will find our site more enjoyable and user friendly.

1st level navigation
The high level (or 1st level) structure/navigation remains - this consists of Home, Help & Advice, A-Z of Services, News, Projects, Publications & Policies, About Us and Sitemap. This navigation will apply no matter where you are in the site.

2nd and 3rd level navigation
As our site is so large some sections have a second level navigation, found just under the first level navigation bar. Where a subsection of the site, for example a service or project, has considerable information a left hand navigation bar will appear to guide you round that part of this site.

A-Z areas
We have several A-Zs that list useful information such as the A-Z of Services and Staff Handbook. To help you find what you are looking for more easily we have set up our A-Z pages using Java Script. This means that you can view a section at a time or chose the full listing option to view the whole list at the same time. If you don't have Java Script enabled the full listing will be displayed. As this is a new approach to our A-Zs we especially welcome your feedback using our website feedback form.

Accessibility
We are continuing to make our information as accessible as possible. The site has been validated to meet World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) AAA standards. You can read more about these standards at the world wide web consortium website.

How does this fit into the web project?

The redesign of the University website falls under the Web Content Management (WCM) Project. ICS has participated in the pilot phase of the WCM Project which has enabled the project team to pilot documentation, standards and procedures. A basic project web presence has also been released to help raise awareness of the project and how it relates to the whole University.

The Project Team are currently liaising with College Secretaries and Central Service Heads to identify: operational web contacts who we need to work closely with, and to agree a timescale for rolling out the new design. The Project Team will be liaising with operational web contacts as soon as they are confirmed. In the meantime updates will be circulated to the Web Admin list.

Feedback, Help & Advice

We hope you enjoy using our new site. However, if you notice any issues or have any questions or feedback please contact the ICS Service Desk quoting Incident No: 29058.
