Diploma / M.Litt. European History

This degree offers flexible study, either full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years), of aspects of European History from the early modern period onwards. It is taught by the History Programme's European History sepcialists, each of whom have published extensively in their areas and who continue to undertake leading research. Students attracted to this degree pathway will benefit from the latest research and historiography. They may use the degree pathway as preparatory to a doctorate (PhD).

Like other History degrees in the Diploma / Masters programme, the M.Litt. in European History is composed of four short (15 credit) modules in Generic Skills, Theory in the Humanities, Historical Sources, and Historical Skills. The last of these, Historical Skills, offers students a choice from normally four options: Paleography, Historical Databasing, Historical Statistics, and Oral History. The student also takes two 30-credit subject-based modules in aspects of European History, taught through normally weekly reading classes. Currently these modules are:
