Beth Lord's new edited collection of essays has just been published by Edinburgh University Press. ‘Spinoza Beyond Philosophy’ contains 10 engaging and original essays looking at Spinoza from different disciplinary perspectives, including politics, architecture, history, literature, and musicology. The book is the outcome of the AHRC-funded Spinoza Research Network, which aimed to take Spinoza "beyond philosophy" and consider how his texts are used in other disciplines. Dr Richard Dunphy (Politics team) has been approached by the Danish web journal Politisk Analyse (Political Analysis), which has sought permission to translate into Danish and publish a summary of the findings of his recently published academic research on "Radical Left Parties in Coalition Government". This enables Richard Dunphy's research to reach a larger (and non-academic) audience in Denmark, where the recent entry of the Socialist People's Party into coalition government with the Danish Social Democrats has made the findings of Richard's research highly topical. Lifetime Teaching Award

Dr David Robb (English) was one of the winners of this year’s Chancellor’s Award for Lifetime Contribution to Teaching. Dr Robb recently retired after being a member of staff within the English programme at the School of Humanities since 1973. He personally taught over 2.000 students at Dundee, and took a key leadership role in improving the learning and teaching experience at the University. His vast experience proved invaluable to younger staff members as well as postgraduate teaching assistants and PhD students....

Following on from the great success of previous School of Humanities students, two of our History students have been awarded Carnegie Undergraduate Vacation Scholarships for 2012. Karis Hill and Leonie McRae have secured the scholarships to help with their summer research projects which will form the basis of their 10,000 word dissertations which they will be due to submit for their Master of Arts degrees in Spring 2013.
