Assimilation to New Pay & Grading Structure

The University has been negotiating the implementation of the Framework Agreement for the Modernisation of Pay Structures with the three campus unions (DUCU, Amicus and UNISON). DUCU have put the agreement as negotiated at the Framework Working Group to a ballot of their members and this has resulted in an overwhelming acceptance. Amicus have also balloted their members and they have narrowly rejected the agreement. UNISON have yet to ballot their members.

In order to maintain the momentum of the negotiations, and as an interim measure only, the University has decided to assimilate all staff on standard University contracts (Academic, ALC, Research, Other Related, Clerical, Technical and Manual) to the new structure with effect from 1 August 2006. This will still leave a number of matters in relation to the Framework Agreement which will require further discussion. All staff will receive a letter prior to the end of August advising them of where they will assimilate to on the new structure.
