PhD in History

If you wish to study for a doctorate in History at Dundee, you will usually first enter the MLitt programme.

After completing this you can then apply for PhD study. The full-time PhD degree lasts three years (part-time, five years) and involves detailed study of a historical topic leading to thesis of 80-100,000 words.

During this time you will benefit from a full training package offered by the Programme, facilities in the Faculty Postgraduate Centre and teaching opportunities, where appropriate, in the Programme.

Research Students

Our current postgraduate research topics range from the role of fashion and display in Scotland in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to the American civil rights movement of the 1960s. Find out what our current postgraduate students are researching.
