Introduction

Welcome to this new section of the Postgraduate Education Unit's website. Over the next year we intend to develop this area to provide an increased resource for GP Trainers in Tayside.

We hope that it will complement the Trainers Portfolio, but, for those of you who can't quite remember where you put that CD, some information will be duplicated here.

We welcome input from individuals and from the Dundee, Perth and Angus Trainers workshops. This area of the site will hopefully become a vehicle for disseminating ideas and information between the workshops and also facilitating communication between the Advisers and Trainers.

Trainers' Courses

Tayside Centre for General Practice (TCGP) - Annual Conference

This two-day event brings together research, undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training - the three core components of the integrated department. Sandwiched between the two days was the conference dinner, giving an informal opportunity to exchange ideas. Both days consisted of a mixture of presentations and workshops relevant to Undergraduate Tutors, Postgraduate Trainers and members of the primary care team interested in research. This year's conference is scheduled for 11th-12th May 2005 at the Dunkeld Hilton. Further information on workshops, programme etc, will be available nearer the time. In the meantime, feel free to contact either Angela Inglis (01382 420131) of Jayne McCaffrey (01382 420014).

Further courses are available through the Trainer Development Course Manager and the Scottish Training Strategy.

Annual Trainers' Away Day

This annual event allows Tayside Trainers to meet informally over a 24 hour period whilst attending and participating in workshops relevant to training in Tayside. The event is organised and run by the local Associate Advisers and is an opportunity to catch up on national issues as they apply locally, and to brush up on teaching and training skills. Feedback from the away day informs the next year's meeting.

2004 Meeting

The Trainer's Away Day was held on Tuesday 16th November 2004 at Murrayshall in Perthshire. As usual, a dinner was held on the evening of Monday 15th November 2004. The comprehensive programme again catered for three separate workshops with 49 Trainers from the breadth of the region attending over the course of the day. Our picture below shows a rapt audience at one of the main lectures by Dr Gordon McLeay entitled "GPR Appointments - a suggested framework for East Scotland".

Trainers are expected to make every effort to attend both these events if at all possible and at the very
least attend one each year. Trainers are also expected to attend at least
1 major educational meeting (and/or an Advanced Trainers' Course) during a 3 year period.
