Hannah Escott, a student of Geography and Psychology at the University of Dundee won a highly prestigious Fulbright Commission Award with the Summer Institute for Outstanding European Students on Climate Change and Sustainability at University of Minnesota, USA this year. On a five week cultural and academic programme Hannah studied with 11 other students from Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, France and Portugal. There were only two places available for UK students. The application process involved writing a personal statement, and an essay. When down to the final 10 participants Hannah attended an interview and gave a presentation at Leeds University after which she was picked.
During her time in Minnesota Hannah attended many fieldtrips, research centres, discussion groups, and cultural excursions. At the end of the programme the students gave a presentation to the US Department of State in Washington DC. Hannah says "I learnt so much from my experiences in Minnesota. I have a greater insight into the perspectives from other cultures and find myself thinking in different ways".
After the programme Hannah returned to Europe and travelled around with her Portuguese friends from the course, and visited her fellow students in their home countries.
