Fieldtrips form an important part of teaching Geography here at Dundee. In all levels you will go on fieldtrips, from local to overseas and both day trips and week-long residential stays. Our residential fieldtrips include:
Aviemore
This week-long trip is based in the town of Aviemore, nestled in the Cairngorm mountains. Here, aspects of both the physical and human environment are studied by asking questions such as what are the main processes acting to create different landscapes and what human and physical forces are currently driving change in the Scottish landscape? This fieldtrip is for all Level 2 students who are studying the module called Dynamic Physical Worlds.

Spain Fieldtrip
This trip forms part of the compulsory courses in Level 3 and involves a week's residential field course in the Alicante region of Spain. Here, students embark on a series of student-led research projects that try to identify the physical, environmental and human processes that have shaped the contemporary landscapes of the Alicante region.

An optional fieldcourse that is part of the Level 3 and 4 'Urban Geography' module. This fieldtrip uses the exciting geographical literature associated with the city and exploits its great potential as a location for carrying out innovative research and assignments. The fieldtrip focuses on the historical and contemporary social, cultural, economic and political processes that shape the urban form and urban experiences within US cities.

California Fieldtrip
An optional fieldcourse that is part of the Level 3 and 4 module 'An Environmental History of the American West'. This fieldtrip visits Yosemite National Park in California. The fieldcourse explores the overall theme of a landscape of abundance which has become a landscape of scarcity. The student experience is a combination of field excursions and group projects on topics including the history of Yosemite as a National Park, the Hetch Hetchy dam, and how a National Park should meet society's needs.
