Intensification of the UK arable sector has caused problems of soil erosion and a decrease in weed diversity. The increasing environmental and socio-economic pressures are leading to further intensification thus exacerbation of the current problems. This research project aims to determine the relationships between erosional processes and weed seed banks. The seed bank is important for maintaining weed species but is susceptible to erosion processes that determine the fate of seeds within the environment. This project will take an experimental approach to investigating the spatio-temporal dynamics of soil erosion and seed banks for the purpose of audiences involved in sustainable farming.
