Future sea level change could have a significant impact on infrastructure along the Tay and Forth coastline. This is the motive behind a newly initiated PhD project, which is funded by Forth Ports PLC, that will review local tide gauge data from the last 150 years. Primary tide gauge sites are based at Forth Ports PLC harbours, but the study will expand over the Forth and the Tay. These tidal series will then be modelled to show future sea level changes, taking into account GIA, datum changes, estuarine effect and climate cyclicity. The data, taken entirely from within the Tay and Forth estuaries, will illustrate a unique and local record of sea level change.
