The NHS Scheme for Scotland (NHSSS)


The national scheme for NHS employees is open to a very few members of University staff.

Contributions - Employees less than £15,000 - 5%
£15,000 to £21,175 - 5%
£21,176 to £26,557 - 6.5%
£26,558 to £48,982 - 8%
£48,983 to £69,931 - 8.9%
£69,932 to £110,273 - 9.9%
Over £110,274 - 10.9%
Contribution - Employers 13.5%

The maximum service is 45 years.

New Starts

Staff who meet the following criteria may be allowed to stay in the Scottish NHS Scheme.

To qualify you must:

If you do not meet ALL these criteria, you will be opted into the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).

For members who have a NHS 'added years contract' please contact Pensions Office.

Retirement

Normal Retirement age 65 For members who joined on or after 1 April 2008
Early Retirement 55 from April 2010
