All information detailing how to enter this competition forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the entrant agrees to abide by these rules. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions.
The information given in these Terms and Conditions is correct, but the University reserve the right to change any of the above without prior notice.
This competition is open to staff and students of the University and to external participants resident in the UK, whether professional or amateur, over the age of 18. All images submitted must have been taken in Dundee.
Entries are free of charge.
All entries must be received by the advertised closing time and date (Noon, 30 April 2010).
In the first instance, entries must be submitted online via YouTube.
Shortlisting will take place on 21 May and shortlisted entrants will be notified by email. Those entrants who are shortlisted must submit their video files on either CD or DVD to the University, with entries postmarked no later than 1 June. Failure to submit the entry on CD/DVD at this stage will result in the entrant being unable to progress to the final judging rounds.
Entries via CD/DVD remain the property of the University and will not be returned.
There is no limit to the number of entries per person. Late, incomplete, defaced or corrupt entries will not be accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries and proof of transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
The winners will be required to take part in publicity.
Uses of personal data received by the University in the course of the promotion are subject to the University's data protection policy. Winners' names may be published on the website.
The competition is not open to judges or organisers of this competition, nor their families.
The competition is not open to freelance, agency or professional videographers who have historically supplied, or are in the process of supplying, the University with video as a professional service.
If entrants choose to enter in a team, the prize will be awarded to the team as a whole. One member of the team must be designated team leader and supply contact details.All videos are to be no more than 90 seconds in length.
Videos are to be uploaded to YouTube and the link supplied on the entry form. The video should be of sufficient quality to publish and the University reserves the right to edit any video.
Any video submitted must be the work of the individual or team submitting it and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other video competition. The video should have been taken within the last 4 years. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any video they submit has been taken with the permission of the subject(s) and/or venue/location and does not infringe the copyright of any third party. The entrant warrants that they own the copyright for the video and that their entry does not infringe the privacy rights, copyright or any other rights of any person.
The entrant warrants that they have obtained permission of those pictured in the video (or, where the video shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by the competition and will indemnify the University against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.
Copyright of a video submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. However, in consideration of their providing the Competition, each entrant grants a worldwide royalty free perpetual licence to the University (and its affiliates) to feature any or all of the submitted video in any and all media for publicity and marketing purposes.
If your video is accepted, we will publish your name alongside it wherever used as part of the Video Competition. Note that this accreditation will not be possible with use of your video in any and all media outside the context of this Video Competition.
Judging will be by a panel of three judges, consisting of two representatives from the University and one external expert. The University reserves the right not to award prizes if, in the opinion of the judges and organizers, the entries fall below the standard required by the competition.
There are no alternatives to the prizes stated and the prizes are not transferable. No part or parts of the prizes may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions. The University reserves the right to change the prizes at any time.
The organizers and judges reserve the right to remove any entries from the competition that they feel may breach any of these terms and conditions or contravene laws of public decency or may bring the entrant or the competition into disrepute. Such entries will be deemed as void.
This includes video that may be offensive, previously published, copyrighted (by somebody other than the entrant) or otherwise contrary to the spirit of the competition. Videos may also not be accepted into the competition if the focus of the video is an identifiable individual who has not given their consent to appear or if videos feature advertising or trademarks which would otherwise require the University to obtain permission to use or would contravene rules which may govern University publications.
The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
