Whilst the strategy as set out in the Merger document assumes that all research active staff will be allocated a mentor, it is recognised that not all research active staff are in a position to become mentors. A core group of mentors will be identified from the more experienced researchers in the School based on the following considerations:
The above are to be regarded as guidelines to aid the identification of potential mentors rather than essential qualifications and the School Research Committee is mindful of the need to see mentoring as a staff development opportunity for mentors as well as mentees. In developing a pool of mentors consideration should also be given to the overall composition of the mentoring team. For example, care should be taken to ensure that it is representative of the range of research interests and approaches to be found in the School as well as reflecting such things as gender balance.
