The first priority for implementing the strategy is to identify all those staff in the School who are research active and hence expected to participate in the mentoring scheme. The 2001 RAE submissions provide useful retrospective information in relation to the pre-existing University academic staff but did not include ex-Northern College staff, newly appointed staff or those who have become research active since the submissions were made. In the first instance, therefore, Heads of Department will be asked to identify in conjunction with the Convenor of the School Research Committee, in the course of their on-going management of their Departments, those staff who are research active. In doing so they should take account of indicators of research activity such as:
However, having identified the research active staff in each Department it is important that the resource implications are acknowledged and that workload deployment and resultant resource allocations to support them are agreed in conjunction with the Convenor of the School Research Committee.
