This national voluntary group has been in existence for well over 10 years. Its membership consists of people drawn from a wide range of working contexts throughout the United Kingdom - all of whom share a common interest in the development of productive collaboration between families and schools. Many are authors in their own right and most are also members of other, well-known national organisations.
The group is actively involved in:
- research, writing and development work in the area of family-school relations;
- sharing and disseminating good practice with regard to parental involvement in children's learning;
- increasing Government, professional and parents' awareness of the crucial importance of home-school understanding for children's education;
- promoting and supporting one another's work;
- running conferences and seminars for parents and professionals.
The group has run national conferences. Group members have also written the following book in the 'Home and School: a working alliance' series, published by David Fulton Publishers: Bastiani, J. & Wolfendale, S. (Eds.) (1996) 'Home-School Work in Britain: review, reflection and development'. London: David Fulton.
