The programme is designed for academic staff working in colleges and other educational institutions, who may be fairly new to teaching or who want to develop their existing teaching skills further.
This programme is an in-service provision offered in partnership with participating Colleges and organisations. It is flexible and grounded in professional practice and gains 60 credits at Level 9 in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. It is normally completed within one academic year, starting in September and completing in May.
Participants undertaking the whole programme will do two modules:
Participants with the PDA Advanced Diploma: Teaching in FE an Introduction (G85C) which is delivered by some colleges will be granted credit for one of the two teaching observations required in the course of the programme.
Those with the PDA Advanced Diploma: Teaching in Further Education (G85D 18) will be entitled to 20 credits, requiring just a short assignment to complete Module One, The Effective Lecturer.
Participants with DELTA or Dip TESOL (or other equivalent teaching qualifications) will be credited with Module One, leaving only one module to study, The Successful Learner.
Each module has 30 credits and requires 300 hours of notional participant effort which includes directed study via the Virtual learning Environment (VLE), work-based activities, face-to-face contact, tutorial support, group meetings, private study and assessment.
